The DEA agent then requested that Federal Express perform a controlled delivery of the package. A DEA agent arrived and field tested the substance, confirming that it was cocaine. He immediately called the Drug Enforcement Agency pursuant to a company policy and notified them of the suspicious substance. He proceeded to open the package and found two bags of white powder wrapped in laundry detergent. He also knew that they sometimes disguised the smell of the drugs with laundry soap. After nine days in the country, Umah was outside the apartment building smoking a cigarette when two federal drug enforcement officers spotted him. He stayed in the apartment for seven days, helping them cut and package cocaine, which they sold on the streets of the town. After two days of sleeping in the wilderness, he made his way to Niagara Falls, New York, where he met some of his cousins who lived in an apartment there. Sakhwat Umah, a Pakistani-born Canadian citizen, illegally crossed the United States/Canadian border in the forests of upstate New York.
